Meet Our October Scarlight, Kathryn A. from New Zealand! I am so thankful that she has chosen Scar Power to tell her story in the service of others.
Sometimes our scars are not physical, they’re mental or emotional. Honestly, most of our scars are emotional; even the physical ones get into our head. I talk about this in my blog post, The Truth About Scars.
So here is the case with Kathryn.
Kathryn’s Story
“My dad died when I was 4 years old, and from then on, my very overbearing and opinionated grandma and uncle took a much bigger role in my life than they may have had otherwise. I spent my teens and 20s feeling like I was never good enough; I was always too fat (they loved to tell me that I needed to lose weight, and they weren’t exactly small themselves), though I look back now on my teens and see a young woman with a lovely curvy figure.
They also made me feel that I wasn’t allowed my own opinion because whenever I disagreed with them it caused major issues. I had 3 boys within 3.5 years of each other, I suffered depression, a breakdown, being bullied both at school and as an adult, a divorce, an emotionally abusive relationship, and have made lots of mistakes.
Healing From Scars
In the last year or so, I finally stepped into who I am. I obtained a life coaching diploma and became my own first client! The difference in confidence and self-esteem has been amazing! My passion has blossomed for coaching other women to reconnect with their own personal needs and goals outside of being mum, wife or partner, because I felt I lost a lot of my own identity in motherhood.
I coach women to build confidence, self-esteem, recognize their self-worth, as well as how to incorporate self-care into their busy lives.
As a Root Cause Therapy Practitioner, this allows me to help women identify where their limiting beliefs or subconscious blocks originated from. This helps them to release the emotions attached to the events so that they no longer impact them in their current lives.
I am launching a FREE 5 Day challenge beginning on October 17th, (October 16th. in the US) called “More Than A Mum.” If you are interested, please visit www.kitesangels.net/challenge.”

Questions for Kathryn
- Why do you want to be featured in a Scarlight?
“Because scars don’t just have to be physical ones you can see. I have many scars from over the years. Now I use my lived experiences to coach other women to greater confidence and self-esteem.”
- How has your story shaped your life’s perspective?
“If I hadn’t been through the things I have, I don’t think I would have come to coaching in my niche. My genuine passion is to help women who are in the position that I used to be in. No one understands better than someone who has been there. My story has ultimately shown me that I am stronger than I ever realized.”
- What steps did you take and/or tools you used to overcome how you felt about your scars? If you have not yet, why?
“As mentioned previously, I trained as a life coach and essentially became my own first client. Through working on my own mindset, I forgave myself for my past mistakes. I have grown heaps in confidence and recognition of myself worth.”
- What is the most important thing that you have learned about yourself through your journey?
“That I am stronger than I ever gave myself credit for, and that I have a lot to offer.”
- What is one lesson that you can share with others that will inspire them?
“9 times out of 10, people who cause you hurt show more about their own lack, than a lack in you. When you stop taking on other people’s s**t as your own, you realize just how amazing you really are!”
Thank You!
Thank you again Kathryn for being our October Scarlight and sharing your truth! I hope your story serves to let other women know that they are not alone in their struggles. They have everything they need already inside to help themselves!
